Human communication is a complicated thing. We rely on being able to speak to each other, though we all know the importance of so-called ‘body language’ (and there’s the small matter of the world’s gestural languages, too). Music often gets referred to as a language and even gets treated as a form of abstract communication, which is odd because music carries very little identifiable meaning (if any).
